ATTORNEY GENERAL OPENS WICKENBURG OFFICE

Wickenburg, AZ : Arizona Attorney General Terry Goddard opened a satellite office in Wickenburg
The office is located at the Wise Owl Senior Center, 255 W. Washington in Wickenburg. It will be open on Thursdays from 9 a.m. to noon.

The Community Services Program includes 31 satellite offices. These offices provide community-based venues that make it easier for residents to obtain information on consumer fraud, and civil and victims' rights.  Volunteers staff the offices, make educational presentations for community groups, distribute educational materials at community events and assist individuals with filing complaints or referrals for assistance.

Mr.  Goddard covered a wide range of consumer abuse and fraud. Arizona ranks number one in identification fraud. The Arizona legislators had a bill this past year that would have allowed you to freeze your credit report and thus preventing allot of ID thefts. They failed to pass it. Currently 33 states have a bill that allows you to freeze your credit report. The bill will be presented again next year.

His office receives over 75,000 complaints a year. He would like to see even more, so that he will be aware of potential frauds. Scams " are timely changing " and the more information his office has the sooner they can sue to shut them down.

Two of the biggest frauds ever are the Canadian Lottery scam and the Nigerian letter scam.  " Lottery Checks are beautiful, just frame them, don't cash them ", Terry stated.

He stated that for every one elder abuse reported, twenty go without reporting it. Many in elder care are " over reaching " and taking money from the elderly. He will prosecute even small amounts of people taking money from the elderly.

We have followed Mr. Goddard in his political career and we have never seen him so thrilled to be doing a good job as our Attorney General. He said that working for the Attorney General's office was his first job out of law school.
