CRIME PAYS ! ! ( NOT MUCH )
Maricopa County, Arizona., Crime
pays ! What ? Yes crime pays, "back", in the program that the
Arizona Department of Corrections has implemented for female prisoners.
Prisoners are doing clean up work and landscaping along roads through out
Maricopa
County. Most prisoners that are on the clean up details are for DUI or
substance violations. Rather than spend all their days seeing the blue and green
colors of the inside of the prison walls and the orange of the prisoners
uniforms, they are given the chance to be on "work detail" helping clean the
trash thrown around our county. On a typical work detail 80 to 100 bags of very
large trash bags are picked up by each work detail. The prisoners are helping
society, and are paid fifty cents per hour,
which makes migrant workers look like millionaires.
