Wickenburg, Arizona : Petitions were taken out to overturn the city council's change in zoning for the Hermosa Ranch Development. The project is located near the Wickenburg airport. The City Council approved request to zone 34 acres of property as a Planned Area Development in early October.

   The question of FAA funding and proper compatible land use was one of the reasons for opposition to the zoning change.*

George Wilkinson at the City Council meeting commented, “There is a technical problem in the location of this development with respect to the airport,” Wilkinson said. “There is a corridor more than a mile long that planes fly over and aircraft can fly 250-350 feet over these homes. If you approve this site, you are putting people in jeopardy.”

After the signatures are turned in and approved it will be put to a vote to Wickenburg voters. A previous referendum on another issue was thrown out on a technicality, which denied all of the voters of Wickenburg the right to vote.
